Matariki Kites
For homework in Weeks 5 and 6, we had to design and construct our own kites to fly on the school field. We had an awesome response to this homework, with everyone bringing in such creative designs! On Friday we took to the school field to test them out. The day started out promising with the sun shining and wind blowing. With the whole school out in force, we took our kites to the sky (or at least attempted to!). Unfortunately, the afternoon was cut short due to rain. We didn't let that dampen our spirits though! Check out some pictures of the spectacle below...
Shared Lunch (mmmmmm)
To celebrate Matariki we decided to have a shared lunch. Each member bought a plate of yummy food to share with the class. Eva even went the extra mile and created cupcakes which had 'Matariki' written on them! Here's a pic of us before we ate waaaay too much sugar!!
Stained Glass Kites
As part of our Matariki week at HNI, we decided to include this celebration into our weekly Art lesson. Our task was to create our own stained glass kite out of clear dura seal and tissue paper. This was a step by step process, which had us measuring out our kite first using black paper to create the frame, before using the tissue paper to make patterns which represent Matariki.
They look fantastic hanging up on our windows!

The Blender!
Today in Art we decided to explore the technique of blending using chalk pastels. Our task was to blend two colours on a template using our fingers. We had to think about the colours we chose, and how we could effectively blend these to make our shape stand out.
X-Ray Art
As part of our inquiry focus on the incredible human machine, we learnt about the bones in our hands and what this looks like when x-rayed. Our task for art was to spray paint our own hand with white paint, and then create the human bones out of cotton buds.

Homework
As part of our homework for Week 3, it was our task to make up and perform a song or rap that clearly explains the benefits of regular exercise. Some groups were really creative and even created a youtube clip to present it. While some groups treated us to a live performance.
