FRI-YAY!

Happy Fri-YAY Room 9!

After another busy week you all deserve a break.

Enjoy your weekend!

-Miss Fisher :)

Be Sun Smart!

Today in Assembly we were given our brand new sun hats to wear outside during school time. We also learnt how important it is we 'Slip, slop, slap, seek and slide'.

Don't we look sun smart in our brand new hats?

Of course Miss Fisher made us have a photo.

Swimming Sports!

We had the always competitive swimming sports on Wednesday evening, and Sheppard was sure to bring the house spirit!

Our champion swimmers swam amazingly and our supporters chanted till their voices ran out.
Even the teachers brought the spirit in their Thing 1,2,3,4 costumes. They even took the time out on Wednesday lunchtime to dye their hairs the beautiful red colour.

GO SHEPPARD!! YOU ALL ROCK!

Don't the teachers look amazing!?

We learnt how to tie our hair in towels..Looking Groovy boys

Multiplication Madness!

WALT: Use addition and multiplication strategies with whole numbers

We have been exploring lots of fun ways to practice our multiplication. Whether we are at home or at school there is always a chance to become experts at those times tables!

Here we are playing: Online multiplication games; Place value hangman; Loopy; Multi Dice bingo

Cucumber Eyes

Sometimes in Room 9 we just need to sit back and relax with some cucumber over our eyes, and the always entertaining company of each other.

Technology!

This week we started our first cycle of technology. Room 9 is lucky enough to have both science and food technology, every Monday morning mid-block.

Miss Fisher has already heard amazing things about what we are getting up to with Mrs Hawtin and Mrs Bassett.

Check out our mouthwatering fruit kebabs and explosive mentos and coke experiment!

Great start Room 9!

Yummm! Look at all those colours!

Ahh! What explosive fun!

The Web of Values

WALT: recognise that our values can link us to others

As part of our term focus of equity and diversity, Room 9 decided to explore our values and how these link us to others. In groups we brainstormed together values most important to us before sharing back to the class. Values such as: family, hobbies, education, beliefs, goals were most popular, however our biggest realisation was that values don't actually have to be materialistic to have importance.

We then created signs with these values and went outside with a many pieces of cut string. Miss Fisher would then call out a value and those standing would take a piece of string each and tie them together. This was to represent us being linked through our values.

At the end of the lesson, through the chaotic web of string, we realised that although we're unique, we can be linked through our values.

Super Sheppard Swimmers!

We've been out swimming today at the village pools preparing for HNI's swimming sports next week. It was so cool to see everyone getting involved and giving it a go (Bonus it was super hot and the pool was lovely and refreshing!).

We hope the other houses are ready for the mighty red Sheppard house!!

What an AMAZING Start!

As part of our homework, this week Room 9 was set the task of creating a photo collage showing our interests, whanau, favourite memories, pets, friends etc.

Miss Fisher has been amazed at the INCREDIBLE work handed in so far and can't wait to hang them all up on our classroom wall. What an amazing start to the year for homework Room 9!!

Here are a few of our collages.

Our Classroom Treaty

Room 9 have co-constructed 6 overarching classroom rules for 2016. Together in groups we discussed what type of classroom environment we would all like to work in, using the starter "Everyone has the right to...". From here we collated our ideas as a class and decided on our final rules. Everyone signed the contract which is now displayed on our wall (and looks awesome!).

Welcome to 2016 in Room 9 #whoswhoinroom9

Whos Who is Room 9? What makes us unique?

Using one hashtag, we each chose something which we think best describes us. If you look closely you can see we are a pretty talented bunch!

...And in case you were wondering Miss Fishers was #planner, because she is forever writing to-do lists at her desk.
